Sewing Basics Workshop

9:30 am – 12:30 pm Mondays - EcoCentric Sister Store, Ripley Town Center.

A three-hour introductory workshop for absolute beginners.

This class is ideal if you are considering buying a machine or have recently purchased one new or second hand; or just want to learn a useful new skill.

During the three hour workshop you will learn:

·       Machine Safety

·       The various parts of your sewing machine and understand what they do

·       Set up your machine to wind a bobbin, inserting the bobbin, threading the machine for sewing.

·       Inserting needles.

·       The uses of the various machine feet and other accessories

·       Stitching straight lines, corners and curves and adjust stitch types for various uses

·       Sewing and finishing seams and hems

·       Machine maintenance

·       What to look for when purchasing a sewing machine

 

We’ll also touch on:

 

·       Basic pattern reading

·       Basic textile knowledge

·       Laying and cutting

·       Useful Tools

 

Skill level: Absolute beginner. No sewing knowledge required.

What you’ll need: Note book and pen and any basic sewing equipment if you have it. Please have your hair tied back and wear close toe shoes.

If your planning to bring your own machine please let me know the make/model of your machine so I can be prepared. If your machine is second hand and more then 10 years old please have it looked at and possibly serviced by a professional. Most technicians will also help you to find user manuals online if yours have been lost or misplaced.
